This July in Washington, DC, the International Community of the Holy Sepulchre joined three Church leaders from the Holy Land advocating and raising awareness on behalf of Christians in the Holy Land. ICoHS coordinated meetings for and worked alongside His Beatitude Theophilos III, Father Ramzi Sidawi OFM, and the Very Revd Dr Dean Hosam Naoum, representing the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Custody of the Holy Land, and the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, respectively. Our delegation attended the US State Department’s Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom. It was the first time church leaders from the Holy Land attended this Ministerial – a powerful demonstration of Holy Land church unity on the international stage.

The Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom was itself a ground breaking event. Drawing over 1,000 religious and civil leaders from the around the world, this was the largest religious freedom event hosted by any American administration, and the single largest event ever hosted by the US State Department.

Alongside the event, ICoHS co-hosted an event with the Hudson Institute titled “Christian Holy Spaces & Holy Places in the Middle East”. The three faith leaders from the Holy Land spoke, as did clergy and lay leaders from the broader region, representing the Holy Land, Syria, Iraq, and Egypt.
