ICoHS was at the IFR Summit – Washington DC

ICoHS participated at the International Freedom of Religion Summit in Washington DC. Due to Covid19 travel restrictions His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem and Achbishop Hosam Naoum were unable to attend in person, but delivered a personal message from the Holy Land during one of the plenary meetings.

More than 1000 people participated in the Summit and many visited the ICoHS exhibition stand.  Besides the Summit 176 individual meetings with Congressional offices (virtual and in person) were held since July 6.  The meetings span approximately 100 separate offices in the House and approximately 20 offices in the Senate. There was also live program engagement with Reps. Smith, Cuellar, Hill, Aguilar and Khanna and Senators Lankford, Coons, Hawley and Cotton.

Prior to the Summit, a Congressional Delegation visited Jerusalem and met several Heads of Churches in order to get updates on the current situation in the Holy Land and better understand the issues to advocate on their behalf.

Rapid Assessment on Education is ready!

This month we finalized the Rapid Assessment on church-based education in the Holy Land.  The findings of the assessment are distilled in a project proposal, which ICoHS wants to present to potential donors.  Mid- September we plan to meet with the responsible people for education within the five denominations which participated in the assessment and ask for feedback and input for the programs we want to develop together.  We also hope to organize a meeting with potential donors to support these plans to improve and secure church-based education in the Holy Land.  Part of the plans we want to develop to secure the future of these schools, include a pilot with volunteer-coaches for teachers in the Holy Land. Please let us know if you know of anyone who would be able to coach teachers in the Holy Land (by travelling to Jerusalem or being available virtually for teachers).
Please contact: Georgia@icohs.org for more information.

Save the date: 21 October in London, UK

It is a great pleasure to invite you to join us at Saint Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey on Thursday 21st October 2021 from 11:00 am (doors open 10:30 am) until 1:00 pm.
The meeting will serve to highlight the situation of Christians in the Holy Land, gathering some of its most influential supporters and defenders for common action (due to possible Covid19 travel restrictions some speakers will join us virtually), and update you on the organisation
At the meeting Dr. Francis Davis and Dr. George Tsourous will present their research on vital contribution of Christian institutions to peace and wellbeing in the Holy Land.
Church Leaders from the Holy Land will share about how they are helping to secure a thriving future for the Christian community in the birthplace of the Church.

A formal invitation and schedule of events will be sent to you early September after we received your acceptance of this invitation.
Please RSVP to Georgia Kamberi by 30th August at georgia@icohs.org indicating whether you will be there in person or would like to receive a link for the recording.

ICoHS Team meeting up with international Greek politicians in Athens

Due to Covid19 restrictions the international team of ICoHS only works together virtually.  In the week of July 26 some of the members were able to reach Athens and meet for the first time!  During this time, they also had the opportunity to meet several international Greek politicians, members of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association (WHIA).

Thank you for your support and prayers for the Holy Land – we hope pray that the words of Psalm 85 may become reality in our time!

Warm regards,
Anita Delhaas
